MUGO analyzes the client's assortment and customizes the calculation model using AI.
The MUGO Retail platform is delivered to the client’s representatives following a Quality Assurance process.
The client analyzes the entire assortment and integrates the results into sustainability reporting.
We leverage artificial intelligence to precisely analyze every single product purchased by the retailer.
The algorithm assesses the impact of thousands of items in seconds with unmatched accuracy, thanks to a database of over 40,000 comparison datasets.
What Does the Platform Measure?
The platform estimates the carbon footprint of each individual product reference, following the calculation methods outlined in Category 1: Purchased Goods and Services from the Technical Guidance for Calculating Scope 3 Emissions (Version 1.0) of the GHG Protocol. The result can therefore be used to quantify the company’s Scope 3, Category 1 carbon emissions.
What is the Scope of Analysis and Impact Assessment Method?
The analysis covers the Cradle-to-Gate life cycle, while the environmental impact assessment method used is Environmental Footprint 3.1 (adapted) (IPCC 2021 - GWP100).
What is the Output of the Measurement?
The output consists of a detailed analytical report, provided in CSV format, which includes all the analyzed product references.
Is This Analysis Relevant for My Company?
Emissions related to raw materials and purchased products account for, on average, over 80% of a company's climate impact, and over 90% for retail chains. A detailed analysis of these purchases is therefore essential for planning an effective decarbonization strategy.
Who Ensures the Accuracy of the System’s Calculations?
RINA has issued a validation opinion, confirming that the calculation system integrated into the platform complies with GHG Protocol standards and, consequently, meets CSRD/ESRS requirements.
Can the Measurement Be Certified?
Yes, the measurement can be certified in compliance with standards such as ISO 14064-1 or the GHG Protocol. Certification must be issued by a third-party organization, and MUGO can support clients throughout the process and in discussions with certification bodies.
Is the Measurement Aligned with CSRD and VSME Requirements?
Yes, the organizational carbon footprint measurement conducted by MUGO is fully compliant with the GHG Protocol, which forms the basis of ESRS E1-9 and VSME requirements. The generated output can therefore be included in the mandatory sustainability report and certified by the auditor responsible for reviewing the final document.
Is the Measurement Aligned with Omnibus Requirements?
Although the final text of the Omnibus Decree is still being defined, the fact that MUGO Retail’s measurement outputs are already required by both ESRS and VSME gives us a reasonable certainty that they will also be included in the final Omnibus text and the updated ESRS KPIs.
